PIERCING AFTERCARE
Your piercing is a healing wound. Keep it clean, avoid unnecessary touching, and be careful with the area.
CLEANING
Wash your hands first.
Clean 1–2 times a day with sterile saline solution (0.9% sodium chloride) or sterile piercing aftercare recommended by the studio.
Allow any crusting to soften, gently remove it if needed, and pat the area dry with clean paper towel or sterile gauze.
Do not over-clean your piercing.
AVOID
Twisting, rotating, removing, or changing the jewellery during the healing period.
Alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, tea tree oil, creams, oils, homemade saline solutions, or makeup on the piercing.
Pressure, friction, tight clothing, sleeping on the piercing, and unnecessary touching.
Swimming pools, lakes, the sea, hot tubs, and saunas during the initial healing period.
NORMAL HEALING: Mild swelling, redness, tenderness, crusting, itching, and clear or pale-yellow fluid can be normal and should gradually decrease.
DOWNSIZING: Some piercings require shorter jewellery once the initial swelling has gone down. Recommended check-up: 4–8 weeks, depending on the placement and healing progress. Downsizing should be performed by your piercer.
ORAL PIERCINGS: Rinse your mouth with water after eating or drinking. Avoid alcohol, smoking, spicy foods, kissing, and oral sex during the initial healing period. Contact the studio if the jewellery feels too tight.
EAR, FACIAL, NAVEL & BODY PIERCINGS
Avoid sleeping on the piercing or putting pressure on it. Keep hair, clothing, headphones, glasses, helmets, phones, and towels clean and away from the area as much as possible. Avoid friction and movements that pull, rub, or catch on the piercing.
GENITAL PIERCINGS
Avoid sexual contact, friction, pressure, and tight clothing during the initial healing period. Use barrier protection and clean the area gently with sterile saline solution. Contact your piercer if swelling, bleeding, or discomfort feels excessive.
Contact the studio or seek medical advice if you notice: increasing pain, redness, warmth, or swelling; thick yellow/green or foul-smelling discharge; fever or feeling unwell; red streaks around the area; signs of an allergic reaction; jewellery that feels too tight, sinks into the skin, or begins to become embedded; or symptoms that are getting worse instead of improving.
For oral piercings, seek urgent medical attention if swelling affects your breathing or swallowing. Do not remove the jewellery if you suspect an infection unless advised to do so by a healthcare professional.
